Description: Its body is laterally flattened, with an armored crescent shape, two pairs of antennae, and sessile compound eyes. The appendages are covered by basal plates; the first pair consists of maxillipeds, the next two are prehensile, and the remaining ones are used for locomotion (based on their orientation, the first four point forward and the last three point backward). There are around 250 species of Gammarus, most of which live in saltwater.
Reproduction: Oviparous. Habitat: Among vegetation and beneath stones.
Distribution: Most oceans and subtropical regions. Marine coasts and intertidal pools.
Color: Transparent/whitish. Size: < 1 cm. Caution: None.
Diet: Decomposing organic matter, as well as microorganisms.
Natural predators: Synchiropus splendidus and, in general, almost all fish, Hippocampus spp., etc.
Notes: They are the most diverse group after the decapods. They can be cultured in the refugium.
