Description: Elongated and cylindrical, it consists of filamentous strands that intertwine with one another. The strands range from 0.25 to 0.5 mm in thickness. It is multicellular, and the chloroplast is parietal and net-shaped, with many pyrenoids.
Reproduction: Asexual, through fragmentation (it does not release the filtered nutrients).
Habitat: Shallow, nutrient-rich areas in the supralittoral and intertidal zones.
Distribution: All seas worldwide. Color: Deep green. Size: Variable. Caution: None. Lighting: Moderate–High. Natural predators: Fish and other herbivorous animals.
Physical removal: Regular pruning.
Notes: It absorbs large amounts of unwanted nutrients, such as phosphates, and does not release toxins. It provides habitat for abundant micro-infauna, amphipods, etc. Very fast growth.
